Monteverde and Tortuguero, Costa Rica November 2001

I went on two trips in November 2001, one to Tortuguero to see the turtles laying eggs, and one to Monteverde. Tortuguero is on the Caribbean coast, and the giant turtles come there every year to lay their eggs. Monteverde is in the Cloud Forest - which means it's up in the clouds. It's almost always damp and cold, but really beautiful.

The first picture below shows Marjory (an American studying Spanish at Intercultura) and me getting ready for the 'Sky Trek' - which is a series of zip-lines in the cloud forrest canopy. It's really exhilarating, but you don't get much time to enjoy the view! In the second picture you can see me setting off on the longest of the zip-lines, which was almost half a kilometer long.

The third picture was taken in Tortuguero. It rained so much we had to wade to the dining room - hence the bare feet!
